Mr. Ruan Zhenming whose ancestral home is in Shaoxing, was born on 14 August, 1940 in the “Shaoxing Clan House”in Shenyang.  He grew up in Beijing and graduated from Beijing Normal University with a degree in history. He is a top national writer in China, a playwright and professor, a research scholar, and the first professor to teach the ideas of Matteo Ricci, Adam Schall, John Leighton Stuart as well as other Western missionaries. He has made remarkable achievements and became well-known both in China and overseas for promoting cultural and art exchanges between China and Italy in the 10 years after the turn of the 21st century. He has been awarded honorary Italian citizenship by the Italian government. As a scholar who has studied Western missionaries in modern China, he is the first writer who has presented his research results in literary and artistic form. In recent years, he created the music and lyrics of the large-scale symphonic choral cycle of the Perfect Pair, Adam Schall, and Dream Melody of Yan Garden trilogy. The first two works have had their world premieres at China’s National Center for the Performing Arts.
