Coming the Charms of the Four Seasons Faithfully April 21, 2016

In April, the city of Bincheng was full of flowers. In this prosperous season, elegant and moving music melodies reappeared over the Grand Theater of Dalian Development Area.

During the first four-season concert in 2016, the National Orchestra of Dalian Art College brought audiences five famous tracks, including "Spring", "Root of the Ancient Locust Tree", "Master Fengshiye¡¯s Biography", "Northwest Suite" and "Silk Road". These classic folk music pieces were presented through the perfect interpretation of the national orchestra teachers and students, and won the applause of the audience.

The "Spring" played by the College¡¯s National Orchestra has both sincere and delicate emotions, without losing its grand and magnificent portrayal. "Root of the Ancient Locust Tree" is the fifth movement in the "National Roots of China", a large-scale national symphony. The performance of the orchestra is delicate and touching, deeply portraying the homesickness of travelers in foreign countries to their hometown. Taiwanese composer Su Wenqing's work "Master Fengshiye¡¯s Biography" and the "Northwest Suite" by the well-known composer Tan Dun have showed  very different North and South musical styles. The perfect interpretation of the orchestra made the audience unstinting in their praise. It is worth mentioning that this is the first show of "Master Fengshiye¡¯s Biography" and "Northwest Suite" on the stage in Dalian. The last track of the show, "Silk Road," is full of Western style, complex rhythms, contrasting colors and demanding ability of the band members. The applause came one after another and the audience was touched by the love of musical instruments and music from students.

At the end of the performance, an audience at the scene said: "As a graduate of Dalian Art College, when the melody of the music played, my tears were down, what I had come to the fore were every rehearsal class I had attended in the band. I missed Dean Gao Dalin's strict requirements at rehearsal and his tireless profession on teaching us to devoted to interpretation of music." The audience also said:" When you see the junior classmates play more perfect, I am deeply proud for my alma mater. "

Mr. Gao Dalin, the former composer and conductor of the Central Orchestra, the dean of School of Music, currently serves as artistic director and permanent conductor in charge of the National Orchestra of Dalian Art College. The orchestra are composed of teachers and outstanding students. After continuous development, it is now a large-scale orchestra with more than 100 members and the chief Erhu player is Hu Wenjie. The purpose of the orchestra is to "strengthen the art level of our students, enhance the ability of comprehensive art practice, cultivate the applied talents who inherit and carry forward the Chinese traditional music, culture and science, and engage in the performance with national instruments while highlighting the strengths and characteristics of running the college."

In recent years, on behalf of the China Music Association or other authorities, the National Orchestra of Dalian Art College has paid several visits to the United States, Belarus and other countries and regions for performances and academic exchanges. Perennially it is responsible for holding the "Charms of Four Seasons" series of concerts in Dalian City and Dalian Jinzhou New District. The orchestra has also worked with the famous erhu virtuoso Ms. Yu Hongmei, Zhongruan player Mr. Feng Mantian and many other performers for academic exchange and performance on the same stage. In September 2015, the large-scale musical and dance symphonic epic ¡°Peace Ode¡±, an original production of Dalian Art College, was staged at the People's Great Hall in Beijing. The National Symphony Orchestra, acting as a usher at the People's Great Hall, was praised by people from all walks of life in the capital and foreign friends in China. This grant achievement marked the orchestra's development to a new level.

It is understood that the Charms of the Four Seasons concert was sponsored by the Publicity Department of Party Working Committee of Jinpu New District, and Jinpu New District Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Dalian City, and organized by Dalian Art College with assistance from the DDA Grand Theater. It is a high-quality program for people¡¯s livelihood by culture. Since 2012, the concert has been held in different forms like symphony and national orchestra, and various forms and performances have shown the charm of music and the high degree of professionalism of our teachers and students. The folk music concert, both from the music form and the music style, all highlighted the artistic charm of traditional Chinese music.
