Zhang Yongsheng

Mr. Zhang Yongsheng is a native of Dalian, Liaoning. He is a professor and a member of the Chinese Musicians Association. He once served as a Professor of Music at Shanxi University, Vice President of Taiyuan Teachers College, Vice Chairman of the Taiyuan Music Association, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Taiyuan Municipal People’s Congress; Professor and Dean of the School of Music at the Liaoning Normal University and a member of the CPPCC Dalian Municipal Committee. In 1987, he was engaged as a visiting professor at Newcastle University and gave lectures abroad in the United Kingdom for one year. In 1996, he went to the United Kingdom and engaged in academic exchange and gave lectures at the School of Music of Newcastle University once more. In 2000, he joined the Dalian Art College as a professor and since 2005 he has been engaged as a tenured professor at Dalian Art College. His compositions include: 4 large-scale multi-movement grand vocal cycles, namely Jiaochengshan Grand Vocal Cycle, Dazhai Ode to the Red Flag, etc; the piano concerto Slope; the symphonic fantasia When Morningstar Lilies Are Blooming; the opera Old Erhei’s Divorce and sketches, songs etc. His published theses include: Functionalism and Pentatonic Mode Harmony System.
